Danza del Diablo

Devil’s Dance is a natural dark, double malt style ale with a fresh, roasted and slightly bitter taste, which pairs well with savoury foods and desserts. Brewed with four specialty malts, including caramel and chocolate malt, it is surprisingly light. Cloudy, with a cinnamon foam, dark and with reddish reflections, it reminds us of the appearance of the devil, who dances in Tijarafe every 7th of September, defiant and mischievous in the crowd and to whom it owes its name.

Created in August 2010, it is not only the first beer that Cervezas Isla Verde launched on the market, but it is also a tribute to Tijarafe and its Patron Saint’s Festival in honour of Our Lady of Candelaria. The Devil’s Dance is much more than just a beer, declared an Asset of Cultural Interest and Fiesta of Tourist Interest in the Canary Islands, it is the most popular event of the Patron Saint’s Festivities, the pride of the Tijaraferos and Tijaraferas who find in gunpowder an indescribable feeling.

In the early hours of the morning of the 7th to the 8th of September, the Evil One bursts into the Plaza de Nuestra Señora de Candelaria, after hours of waiting and amidst fireworks, lively songs and great hullabaloo. There, after bowing to the Virgin, he begins to dance, filling the square and the surrounding area with colour and the smell of gunpowder. Finally, his head explodes, the Virgin winning the battle, proving, once again, that good always wins over evil.
